Assorted Grains was a Finalist in the City of Logan People's Excellence Awards Cultural Impact category. Aaaannnddd our President, Ali Strachan was the WINNER of the Cultural Contribution category! Whoop! Whoop!
Celebrating the arts in city-wide ceremony like this is a huge step forward for the local sector. But when a Council chooses to celebrate the arts, it tells residents what it values (hint, it's social cohesion, and a sense of belonging).
In Logan, the identity we share with the world is built around multiculturalism. And with the current state of society, building belonging around diversity isn't easy.
This is where the arts has a role to play.
We need to tell stories, share histories and identities that invite people in, that say, "hey, I'm just like you."
Brian Eno said, "Artists are to the city as worms are to the soil..."
